Do I need to be super-fit?

No - but you do need to be committed to improving your level of fitness. Don't worry if you lack motivation - we're here to help you get fit. We have different ability classes to suit different levels of fitness. Whatever you fitness 'status' you will be made to feel welcome by the group and BMF staff.

Have a look at a class online or look at the Who does BMF? page

Can I register at any time?

Yes. Just fill in our registration form online and print out the health questionnaire, sign and date it and bring it to the park at your free trial. (At your free trial please try and arrive at the meeting point 10 minutes before the session starts to go through the questionnaire with the Instructor.)

What should I wear? Do I need any specialist equipment?

Dress - A running kit or an old T-shirt and shorts or tracksuit is ideal. Some exercises involve getting down on the ground so be prepared to get at least a little bit dirty - it's part of the fun! Unfortunately we can't guarantee the weather but we can guarantee that you'll be sweating by the end of each session so make sure you have a warm top to put on after the session has finished. Some people also like to wear gloves and a hat in winter months.

If possible, please arrive in your kit as changing facilities in parks are limited - though we do try to position our meeting points close to public conveniences.

Specialist equipment - Apart from a good pair of running shoes or trainers, any equipment required for the exercises will be supplied by the Instructor.

Have you looked at our kit shop? We stock a variety of training clothing.

What is a typical training session like?

There is no 'typical' session; each instructor is different and each session will be varied to stop both you and your body getting bored. This is one of the benefits of our sessions - it's a full cardiovascular workout. Lessons may include any of the following; team games, paired exercises, circuits, anaerobic or strength work and running.

Each class is divided into ability groups and starts with a warm up followed by at least 50 minutes of effective fitness training, ending with a cool down and stretch.

Instructors will work to the pace of the weakest member of the group, whilst finding ways to keep the front runners working hard! No matter what, you will be made to feel welcome by the rest of the group and the BMF staff.

I can hardly do one press-up, let alone 100! Is this for me?

Yes! This is why our classes are divided into different ability groups - to enable everyone to raise their current level fitness with a good workout, no matter what level they are at. Have a look at our testimonials and client profiles if you need more convincing!

Do I need to check with a health professional before I sign up?

You should complete and sign a fitness / health questionnaire and hand it to your Instructor before you start your first session. If in doubt, or you answer 'yes' to any of the questions, we recommend you speak to your GP before attending. Women who are pregnant should not train after the first trimester (12 weeks).

Do I need to book specific classes?

No. Once you have signed up for classes you will appear on the nominal role of the park where you did a trial session. After that, simply turn up at whichever class in whichever park anywhere in the UK you would like to attend!

If you are visiting friends or are away on business, why not attend a class in a different town and see how they do it! It's a good way of getting out and meeting other people in a safe environment.

Do I need to attend a fitness assessment before starting training?

No. Just turn up to any class for your free trial. It's a good idea to have a look at the fitness assessment page to give you a rough guide as to what group you might fit into. Speak to the instructor when you arrive at the park to ascertain your starting ability.

Are there separate classes for beginners?

Yes. The majority of venues run concurrent novice, intermediate and advanced classes. If you require individual attention, our instructors will be there to help you.

Can I change the venue and times that I attend? What if I can't attend the sessions that I've paid for and what if I want to cancel?

Once you have signed up, if you need to miss sessions through working abroad, through injury or otherwise - all you need to do is call the office and suspend your membership. We understand that these things happen and we are not ogres!

If you miss a month's sessions you can roll these over into the next month so that you do not lose any sessions. For example, someone signing up for 1 session per week (4 per month) could miss all 4 sessions in one month and do 8 sessions the next month to catch up. Sessions can only be rolled over for a maximum of one month, any time after this they are lost.

To waiver the joining fee you are committed to being with us for a minimum of 3 months once you sign up. If you cancel before this time, we will charge you the joining fee commensurate with the region that you are in. Click here for our terms and conditions.

Where do I put my valuables?

Please try to avoid bringing valuables to the classes but if you have to do so, you may use the instructors' vehicles to lock up valuables/change of clothing etc. At the bigger venues there will be a BMF van to lock gear up in.

Do I need to bring my own water?

You're welcome to bring your own water and/or isotonic drinks for before or after the session. The instructors do carry plenty of water and there will be water breaks during the class. Please drink plenty of water before you arrive.
