First Steps to Fitness - London

British Military Fitness are offering 500 free places on our initial First Steps to Fitness scheme in London. The places are designed specifically for individuals who are intimidated by gyms, lack the motivation to exercise themselves or who would be better off exercising in groups rather than on their own.

This is our first step into the area of referrals through public health channels, and we are keen for maximum uptake.

First Steps Classes

  • Classses start on February 1st 2008. These will run alongside normal classes at our London Hyde Park and Clapham common from Monday to Saturday inclusive. For more information on timetables and details see www.britmilfit.com
  • Classes will involve brisk walking, some very light short distance jogging and some paired exercises. We always work with the weakest member of the group in mind
  • Individuals on the scheme will be required to wear normal BMF gear eg trainers, tracksuit or similar. They will not be required to wear bibs although First Steps classes will run alongside our normal priogramme
  • If after time (And at the discretion of our Lead Instructors at Hyde Park and Clapham Common) individuals feel able to take part in normal classes, then they will be encouraged to do so. February will remain a free month for them

Booking Places

  • There are 500 FREE places on the scheme. These must be booked at BMF central by emailing barney@britmilfit.com. We will be closely monitoring uptake of places to identify organisations who are effective at delivering people for future schemes similar to this one
  • Places can be block booked by PCT's, health professionals or other group leaders involved in this area

Further information

If uptake is good and we get the results we hope for, we will look to roll this scheme out in other big venues around the country. As the UK's biggest provider of outdoor fitness classes, we will have National coverage by the end of this year and will look to roll this out at bigger venues where we have demand.
