British Military Fitness Instructors take part in Commando Cops Speedmarch

BMF instructors trained to run the half marathon Commando Cops Speedmarch around Central London, raising money for the Paraplegic Royal Marines competing in the 2010 Winter and 2012 Paralympics.

80 plus former Royal Marines who are now serving police officers ran a half marathon (Speedmarch) on Saturday 7th November. The event started at Horse Guards and finished at the Graspan Royal Marines Memorial in the Mall, covering a distance of 13.5 miles.

BMF Instructor and former Royal Marine, Tim Bishop, took part in the event, "The weather was brilliant and the support from the public was amazing all along the route. I was very proud to be wearing the uniform and green beret of the Royal Marines again. We finished the speedmarch around midday on the mall where we were met by the Royal Marines Band who marched us down to the Graspen Memorial. We were thrilled to be able to hand over a cheque for over £120,000 to the chairman of the Royal Marines Association," says Tim.

The money raised during the event will be used to purchase the specialist equipment necessary to enable paraplegic Royal Marines, injured as a result of fighting conflicts abroad, to train and compete in the 2010 Winter Paralympics and the 2012 Paralympics.

Inspector Mark Scoular who developed Commando Cops states: "The idea for this event was born purely out of a desire to do my/our bit for the brave Royal Marines that have made a significant, life-changing sacrifice for us all. To provide an opportunity for them to train for and possibly compete in the Paralympics is totally worthwhile and completely in keeping with the values that are the cornerstone of all Royal Marines. They are courage, unity, determination, adaptability, cheerfulness in the face of adversity, humility, professional standards, fortitude and Commando humour."

So far the participants have raised over £120,000 but need more to support the Royal Marines in their quest to represent their country at the Paralympics, donations can be made at www.bmycharity.com/commandocops
