British Military Fitness (BMF) members are a passionate and dedicated bunch. Whether you’re looking to lose weight, improve your fitness and strength, train for a challenge or simply maintain your fitness levels in a fun and social environment, BMF is for you.
But don’t just take it from us, let us introduce you to real BMF members, as we follow them in a day of their life and see how they fit BMF around busy schedules, use BMF to set them up for the day ahead or even to prepare for challenges as great as climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.
Aside from a brief stint as a red ‘intermediate level’ bib (when she fancied an instructor), Sandra has been regularly attending three BMF sessions a week for the past seven years as a blue ‘entry level’ bib – blue to match her eyes, she claims! With Sandra, “the fun never stops”, as she busies herself with her two sons, her flower shop job of “delivering joy and happiness”, and a hectic social life – both in and out of BMF.
Sandra tells us, “I love BMF! I really want to spread the word and let people know BMF is for everybody!”
After several months of procrastinating, Jane finally gave BMF a try. Eight months on and she’s a fully-fledged member and hasn’t looked back.
Jane says, “I heard of BMF through my friend Rachel. She’s super fit and I was worried about whether I’d find it too tough and was unsure what to expect, but she kept saying I’d love it. After my first trial session, where I met other first-timers too, I was surprised at how friendly everyone was and how much of a laugh we all had a laugh together. I worked hard and was aching for a couple of days but went back at the weekend and signed up!
Whether you are super into fitness or you have never worked out before there is such a range of ability at BMF, you won’t feel out of place. The instructors will always modify exercises for you if you can’t manage one or are injured. Or if you have a fitness goal they’ll help you to train specifically for that, again, by modifying your workout if necessary. This year I did a 5k obstacle race, which is something I’d have never had the confidence to do before now.
It’s only an hour but you barely notice as you’re distracted by the constant new activities – no session is ever the same as the last. My fitness has definitely improved and consequently my motivation to work out is much higher. It helps to know you’ll see your BMF friends there each session and all help each other through, particularly on cold or rainy evenings! I’ve met so many people through BMF and it’s great to have such a lovely group of friends to have breakfast with after a weekend morning session or drinks after class in the evenings.
Harry is a regular and popular member at the early morning BMF Clapham Common sessions, along with brother Charlie. The brothers founded healthy ice cream company, Oppo, and Harry says that although he finds himself increasingly short of time as the business grows, he can’t think of a better way to begin his day than with a blast of fresh BMF air to kick-start his day

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is something that had been on High School Teacher Anna’s bucket list for years. With the help of British Military Fitness (BMF), Anna gained the training and confidence she needed to make that dream a reality.
Roddy used BMF to get fighting fit ahead of his radiotherapy treatment, after learning he had developed throat cancer in August 2015. A year later, he was on the road to recovery and looking forward to switching his red ‘intermediate level’ bib for a green ‘advanced level’ bib as his fitness comes on leaps and bounds.
Roddy urges, “You’ve GOT to do the trial sessions. You have GOT to try it.”
